Have you ever heard of moonrocks? No, not the rocks on the actual moon, but a fantastic cannabis product that stoners everywhere love. Moonrocks are super potent, flavourful and always a different experience! Read on to find out more about what makes moonrocks a must-try for any marijuana enthusiast.
What Are Moonrocks?
Moonrocks – a fitting name given to a cannabis creation that is truly an out-of-this-world experience. They are nugs of high-grade cannabis, coated in extracts and then rolled in kief. Moonrocks are known as the ‘caviar’ of cannabis concentrates, due to being a top-shelf offering from most dispensaries. However, there can be some confusion when using this term, as Caviar is also another name for a cannabis nug dipped in concentrates, without any kief added.
How Do You Make Moonrocks?
Be warned – this will probably get very messy! Isopropyl alcohol is your best friend for cleaning the resulting stickiness off of your hands and tools.
You will need:
- Buds of your favourite strain of weed
- A concentrate with a liquid, sticky consistency*
- Kief
- A dab tool, tweezers, pliers, and/or tongs
- Parchment paper
- Patience
*Some examples of concentrate types that may work for this purpose: honey oil, Rick Simpson oil/phoenix tears, live resin, THC distillate, cherry oil, terp sauce, rosin, HTFSE or HCFSE.
Method:
- Pick up a whole nug of cannabis with tweezers or another small grabbing tool. You could also wear gloves, so as not to get any sticky concentrates on your hands.
- Depending on what kind of concentrate you are using to cover your bud, you may be able to simply dip it in and carefully roll it back out, covering the full surface area. Another good method, especially if you want to keep leftover plant matter out of the remaining extract, is to scoop up some oil with a dab tool, and use that to spread it over the outside of the bud. This method takes patience, but it is worth it!
- Gather a bunch of kief from the bottom chamber of your grinder, or you can sometimes buy grams of kief alone, by the strain. Spread it out flat on a piece of parchment paper.
- Using your small tool if you have it, slowly roll the concentrate-coated nug in the pile of kief until the entire outside is covered. Allow to dry.
There you have it, your very own custom-made moonrocks! Enjoy the ride – we know you will.
How Do You Smoke Moonrocks?
Smoking moonrocks is a sticky business… but it’s worth it for the unique cannabis experience offered. Depending on the grade of cannabis used and the kind of concentrate, it could be a very terpy time! The range of flavours and potency of effects will be unmatched by smoking regular, ‘naked’ buds.
The best ways to smoke a moonrock are from a pipe or a bong. It can be very difficult to roll up in a joint or blunt, and it usually won’t burn evenly or smoothly.
The good news is, there are a few good techniques you can use to minimize the mess. Try to keep the moonrock on a piece of parchment paper as you break it apart. You can wear gloves to protect your hands from the worst of it, but remember that it will still stick to your gloves. A small dab tool would also be handy to help break it apart and load it into your smoking piece of choice.
Don’t use a grinder, or try to smoke the entire moonrock whole. You can still smoke it all at once if you want to, just break it up a bit first!
How Do Moonrocks Make You Feel?
Smoke moonrocks when you’re looking to get higher than the moon! Moonrocks are typically very high in THC, averaging a level of more than 50%. These are definitely not for first time cannabis consumers. Moonrocks are a special treat, even for those with a high tolerance, and this should be kept in mind when you try them for the first time.
The exact high will be different for everyone, and also depends on what the moonrock was created with. The better ingredients, the more intense the experience. Expect to feel some combination of a cannabis smoking high, with a big dab from the rig, and more euphoria than both of those combined. Moonrocks are a fun way to spend the afternoon getting stoned with your friends!
